पाण्डवा भरतश्रेष्ठ करिष्यन्ति कुरुक्षयम् ॥

कुरवः संत्रसिष्यन्ति वज्रपाणेर् इवासुराः ॥

त्रासयिष्यति संग्रामे कुरून् अन्यांश् च पार्थिवान् ॥

pāṇḍavā bharataśreṣṭha kariṣyanti kurukṣayam ||
adya gāṇḍīvaghoṣasya vīryajñāḥ savyasācinaḥ ||
kuravaḥ saṃtrasiṣyanti vajrapāṇer ivāsurāḥ ||
adya gāṇḍīvamuktānām aśanīnām iva svanaḥ ||
trāsayiṣyati saṃgrāme kurūn anyāṃś ca pārthivān ||
[Karna:] From this day, the Pandavas, enraged like tigers over the slaughter of game, will bring about the destruction of the Kurus, O best of the Bharatas. This day the Kurus, knowing the might of the twang of Savyasachin's [Arjuna's] Gandiva, will tremble before it as the asuras before the thunderbolt-wielder [Indra]. This day the crash of arrows sped from Gandiva, like the sound of thunderbolts, will strike terror in battle into the Kurus and into other kings as well.

The thrice-repeated "today, from now on" (adya) tolls like a funeral bell: with Bhishma's passing has begun what Karna foresees as inevitable — "the destruction of the Kurus." The comparison of Arjuna to the thunderer and the Kurus to trembling asuras is no accident: it places the Pandavas on the side of the gods and the Kauravas on the side of the demons, and thereby pronounces judgment on the very cause for which Karna himself fights. The verse teaches that the discerning see the truth of the outcome even among their own, and that the very distribution of images — who here is Indra and who are the asuras — reveals on whose side dharma stands, for the language of the tale does not lie about what lies hidden behind the force of arms.
