Then, having slain almost all the Samshaptakas who had stood to the death, "Drive to Bhagadatta!" -- with these words Partha urged Krishna onward.

Having accomplished the first task -- crushing the Samshaptakas -- Arjuna at once turns to the second: "Drive to Bhagadatta!" Having settled his heart, once torn between two courses, on one of them, he does not linger or rest on his victory, but hastens to where his help is still needed. It is significant that one accomplished task is immediately followed by the next -- such is unceasing duty. The verse teaches that a completed deed is no cause for rest while a task remains undone; that the valiant, having resolved one difficulty, at once turns to the next without wasting time on self-admiration; and that faithfulness to duty is an unbroken movement from one obligation to another -- the victory over the Samshaptakas only frees Arjuna to hasten to the rescue of the army, for whose sake he had striven from the very beginning.
