तृणीकृत्य च यत् पार्थांस् तव पुत्रो ववल्ग ह ॥
विषमस्थान् समस्थो हि संरम्भाद् गतचेतसः ॥
बाल्यात् प्रभृति चारिघ्नस् तानि दुःखानि चिन्तयन् ॥
निरविद्यत धर्मात्मा जीवितेन वृकोदरः ॥

译文
...and how, turning the Parthas — fallen into misfortune — into nothing, your son gloated, himself secure, his reason lost to arrogance — pondering these sorrows, the righteous-souled Vrikodara, slayer of foes from his very childhood, grew weary of life.

To gloat over the fallen while standing on firm ground is a sign not of strength but of delusion: "samasthaḥ" mocks "viṣamasthān", and arrogance has stolen his reason. It is telling that righteous Bhima grows disgusted with life itself until this shame is repaid — for the noble, dishonor is bitterer than death. The verse teaches that mockery of the fallen turns back upon the mocker, for the humiliated remembers, and remembered pain breeds an unyielding resolve.
