ते ऽपि चास्य महाघोरं बलं नागायुतोपमम् ॥
जानन्तो व्यवसायं च क्रूरं मारुततेजसः ॥
किमर्थं क्रूरकर्माणं यमकालान्तकोपमम् ॥
बलसंरम्भवीर्यज्ञाः कोपयिष्यन्ति संयुगे ॥
कर्णस् त्व् एको महाबाहुः स्वबाहुबलम् आश्रितः ॥
भीमसेनम् अनादृत्य रणे ऽयुध्यत सूतजः ॥

"And they too, knowing his most terrible strength, like ten thousand elephants, and the fierce resolve of the one whose fire is like Vayu's -- why, knowing his might, fury and valor, would they provoke in combat the one fierce in deeds, resembling Yama, Kala and Antaka? Karna alone, mighty-armed, relying on the strength of his own arm, disregarding Bhimasena, fought in the battle, the suta's son."
