सहस्ताभरणाभ्यां तु भुजाभ्यां विक्षिपन् धनुः ॥
व्यरोचत रणे भीमः सविद्युद् इव तोयदः ॥
स चापघोषस्तनितः शरधाराम्बुदो महान् ॥
भीममेघो महाराज कर्णपर्वतम् अभ्ययात् ॥
ततः शरसहस्रेण धनुर्मुक्तेन भारत ॥
पाण्डवो व्यकिरत् कर्णं घनो ऽद्रिम् इव वृष्टिभिः ॥
sahastābharaṇābhyāṃ tu bhujābhyāṃ vikṣipan dhanuḥ ||
vyarocata raṇe bhīmaḥ savidyud iva toyadaḥ ||
sa cāpaghoṣastanitaḥ śaradhārāmbudo mahān ||
bhīmamegho mahārāja karṇaparvatam abhyayāt ||
tataḥ śarasahasreṇa dhanurmuktena bhārata ||
pāṇḍavo vyakirat karṇaṃ ghano 'drim iva vṛṣṭibhiḥ ||
With both hands adorned with wristlets, brandishing the bow with his arms, Bhima shone in battle like a cloud with lightning. He, thundering with the roar of his bow, a great cloud of streaming arrows -- the cloud-Bhima, o great king, advanced upon the mountain-Karna. Then with a thousand arrows loosed from his bow, o Bharata, the Pandava scattered Karna, as a cloud scatters a mountain with its downpours.

Bhima is a thundercloud, Karna a mountain: the image is majestic, but it is also a verdict, for rain wears down and crumbles even stone. It is telling that lightning, thunder, and torrents are fused into a single onslaught: the strength of righteous anger appears as an elemental force before which even a mountain-giant is merely a target. The verse teaches that there is a power that descends like the elements themselves; and however firm the opponent, the relentless pressure of truth wears away even a fortress of stone.
