प्रमुखे पाण्डुपुत्राणां तव चैव विशां पते ॥
कौरवाणां च सर्वेषाम् आचार्यस्य च संनिधौ ॥
विनष्टाः पाण्डवाः कृष्णे शाश्वतं नरकं गताः ॥
पतिम् अन्यं वृणीष्वेति तस्येदं फलम् आगतम् ॥
यत् स्म तां परुषाण्य् आहुः सभाम् आनाय्य द्रौपदीम् ॥
पाण्डवान् उग्रधनुषः क्रोधयन्तस् तवात्मजाः ॥
pramukhe pāṇḍuputrāṇāṃ tava caiva viśāṃ pate ||
kauravāṇāṃ ca sarveṣām ācāryasya ca saṃnidhau ||

...before the face of the sons of Pandu, and before you, lord of peoples, and before all the Kauravas, and in the presence of the teacher [Drona]: 'The Pandavas have perished, Krishna [Draupadi], gone to eternal hell; choose yourself another husband' — the fruit of that has now come. As for the rude words they spoke to her, having brought Draupadi into the assembly, your sons, enraging the fierce-bowed Pandavas...

The harsh word spoken to a defenseless woman before the whole assembly now bears its fruit — the death of those who spoke it. It is significant that witnesses are named: the Pandavas, the king, all the Kurus, the teacher — all remained silent, and their common indulgence became a common guilt. The verse teaches that the abuse of the defenseless does not go unpunished; and where many saw evil and stayed silent, retribution overtakes not the lone offender but the whole silent circle.
