As oil in sesame, as ghee in curds, as water in the streams, as fire in the fire-sticks — so is the Ātman grasped within oneself by him who beholds him with truth and austerity.

Four similes in a row, all to one point: what is sought is already in the place where one seeks.
Oil in the sesame seed: it is not brought — it is pressed out. Ghee in the curds: churned out. Water in the streams: it is the stream. Fire in the sticks: kindled by friction, as the previous verse said.
This verse stands in the Śvetāśvatara too, and there it is followed by the conclusion implied here: “that God, hidden in one's own nature, the devotees of yoga see”.
Note the structure of the similes. The first two are of what is extracted from a substance; the second two, of what is itself the substance in motion.
The image, that is, is given twice and from two sides: as extraction and as discovery.
And two conditions are named at the end: satyena tapasā — “by truth and austerity”.
Not by contemplation and not by knowledge: by truthfulness and by labour. These are the simplest words in the chapter, and they stand in its most important place.
