अथ प्रवाते तुमुले निशि सुप्ते जने विभो ॥
तद् उपादीपयद् भीमः शेते यत्र पुरोचनः ॥
ततः प्रतापः सुमहाञ् शब्दश् चैव विभावसोः ॥
प्रादुरासीत् तदा तेन बुबुधे स जनव्रजः ॥

Translation
"And then, when in a fierce wind, at night, the people were asleep, o lord, Bhima set the house ablaze there where Purochana slept; then a great heat and the roar of fire arose, and at that the crowd of people awoke."

Here the trap flares up — and the first to perish in it is its own builder. It is telling that Bhima sets the house ablaze precisely there "where Purochana slept": the instrument of murder overtakes the murderer himself first of all. Here is a visible triumph of karma: the fire prepared for the innocent consumes the villain who kindled it. Telling too is the time — "a fierce wind at night": even the elements seem to aid the retribution, fanning the flame. So the scripture shows that evil turned against the righteous returns, by the higher law, upon the head of the schemer; and the house of resin, built for the Pandavas' destruction, becomes the funeral pyre of their would-be destroyer.
