Here the younger does not presume to precede his elders. It is significant that Arjuna, having a claim to the maiden, refuses to marry before Yudhishthira and Bhima: to marry ahead of an elder brother he counts as adharma. Here is the high dharma of reverence for seniority: the good do not exalt themselves above their elders, however much they may have earned. Significant too is his word, "we are all yours": he gives over himself, his brothers, and the maiden to the will of the eldest. Thus the text shows Arjuna's humility, placing order and reverence above his own reward; and this very refusal opens the way to Yudhishthira's decision.
