अहम् एनम् धनुष्कोट्या शूलाग्रेण इव कुञ्जरम् नयामि दण्डधारस्य यमस्य सदनम् प्रतिaham enam dhanuṣkoṭyā śūlāgreṇa iva kuñjaram nayāmi daṇḍadhārasya yamasya sadanam pratiWith the tip of my bow, as with the point of a goad upon an elephant, I shall send him to the dwelling of Yama, the wielder of the rod."
संप्रायुध्यत् धनुष्कोट्या कौन्तेयः परवीरहा तत् अपि अस्य धनुः दिव्यम् जग्रास गिरिगोचरःsaṃprāyudhyat dhanuṣkoṭyā kaunteyaḥ paravīrahā tat api asya dhanuḥ divyam jagrāsa girigocaraḥThe son of Kunti, slayer of enemy heroes, fought on with the tip of his bow; but this divine bow too the mountain-dweller swallowed.
ततः अर्जुनः ग्रस्तधनुः खड्गपाणिः अतिष्ठत युद्धस्य अन्तम् अभीप्सन् वै वेगेन अभिजगाम तम्tataḥ arjunaḥ grastadhanuḥ khaḍgapāṇiḥ atiṣṭhata yuddhasya antam abhīpsan vai vegena abhijagāma tamThen Arjuna, his bow now swallowed, stood with sword in hand and, eager to bring the battle to an end, rushed swiftly upon him.
तस्य मूर्ध्नि शितम् खड्गम् असक्तम् पर्वतेषु अपि मुमोच भुजवीर्येण विक्रम्य कुरुनन्दनः तस्य मूर्धानम् आसाद्य पफाल असिवरः हि सःtasya mūrdhni śitam khaḍgam asaktam parvateṣu api mumoca bhujavīryeṇa vikramya kurunandanaḥ tasya mūrdhānam āsādya paphāla asivaraḥ hi saḥThe joy of the Kurus, swinging with the strength of his arms, brought down upon his head a keen sword that would not lodge even in mountains; on reaching his head, that finest of swords shattered.

ततः चटचटाशब्दः सुघोरः समजायत पाण्डवस्य च मुष्टीनाम् किरातस्य च युध्यतःtataḥ caṭacaṭāśabdaḥ sughoraḥ samajāyata pāṇḍavasya ca muṣṭīnām kirātasya ca yudhyataḥThen a dreadful crackling sound arose from the fists of the Pandava and of the Kirata as they fought.
सुमुहूर्तम् महत् युद्धम् आसीत् तत् लोमहर्षणम् भुजप्रहारसंयुक्तम् वृत्रवासवयोः इवsumuhūrtam mahat yuddham āsīt tat lomaharṣaṇam bhujaprahārasaṃyuktam vṛtravāsavayoḥ ivaFor a long while there was a great and hair-raising combat of blows dealt by hand, like the battle of Vritra and Vasava.

तयोः भुजविनिष्पेषात् संघर्षेण उरसोः तथा समजायत गात्रेषु पावकः अङ्गारधूमवान्tayoḥ bhujaviniṣpeṣāt saṃgharṣeṇa urasoḥ tathā samajāyata gātreṣu pāvakaḥ aṅgāradhūmavānFrom the crushing grip of their arms and the clash of their chests, fire with embers and smoke arose upon their bodies.
