मां ते रुणीं भार्यां त्वदाधिभिर् भिप्लुताम्
थं संधायिष्यामि वित्साम् धेनुकाम्
हो ह्य् काले प्रस्थानं कृवान् सि पुत्र
विहा काले मां सुगृद्धां र्शने
नूनं तिः कृतान्तस्य प्राज्ञैर् पि सुदुर्विदा
त्र त्वं केवे नाथे संग्रामे ऽनावद् तः

Transliteration (IAST)

imāṃ te taruṇīṃ bhāryāṃ tvadhibhir abhiplutām ||
kathaṃ saṃdhārayiṣyāmi vivatsām iva dhenukām ||
aho hy ale prasthānaṃ kṛtan asi putraka ||
viya phalale māṃ sugṛddhāṃ tava darśane ||
naṃ gatiḥ kṛntasya prājñair api sudurvi ||
yatra tvaṃ keśave the saṃgrāme 'thavad dhataḥ ||

नूनम् गतिः कृतान्तस्यnūnam gatiḥ kṛtāntasyasurely, the path of Fate [Death-the-Ender]; surely, the path of Fate
प्राज्ञैः अपि सुदुर्विदाprājñaiḥ api sudurvidāhard to fathom even for the wise; incomprehensible even to the wise
यत्र त्वम् केशवे नाथेyatra tvam keśave nāthe[there,] where you, with Keshava as protector; where you, with Keshava as guardian
संग्रामे अनाथवत् हतःsaṃgrāme anāthavat hataḥwere slain in battle, as if defenseless; were struck down in combat, like one defenseless
Translation

"This young wife of yours, overwhelmed by longing for you — how shall I sustain her, like a cow bereft of her calf? Oh, my son, you have made an untimely departure, forsaking me in the season of fruit, longing to see you. Surely the path of Fate is incomprehensible even to the wise — there, where you, with Keshava as protector, were struck down in battle as if defenseless."
