सुभद्रे मा शुचः पुत्रं पाञ्चाल्याश्वासयोत्तराम् ॥
गतो ऽभिमन्युः प्रथितां गतिं क्षत्रियपुंगवः ॥
ये चान्ये ऽपि कुले सन्ति पुरुषा नो वरानने ॥
सर्वे ते वै गतिं यान्तु अभिमन्योर् यशस्विनः ॥
कुर्याम तद् वयं कर्म क्रियासुः सुहृदश् च नः ॥
कृतवान् यादृग् अद्यैकस् तव पुत्रो महारथः ॥

gato 'bhimanyuḥ prathitāṃ gatiṃ kṣatriyapuṃgavaḥ ||
ye cānye 'pi kule santi puruṣā no varānane ||
sarve te vai gatiṃ yāntu abhimanyor yaśasvinaḥ ||
kuryāma tad vayaṃ karma kriyāsuḥ suhṛdaś ca naḥ ||
kṛtavān yādṛg adyaikas tava putro mahārathaḥ ||
"Subhadra, do not grieve for your son; with Panchali, comfort Uttara. Abhimanyu, bull among kshatriyas, has gone to a renowned lot. And whatever other men there are in our family, o fair-faced one, may all of them go to the lot of glorious Abhimanyu. May we accomplish that deed, and may our friends accomplish it, such as your son, the great chariot-warrior, alone accomplished today."

Krishna turns death into an example rather than grief: "sarve te vai gatiṃ yāntu abhimanyor yaśasvinaḥ" — may all of our family attain the lot of Abhimanyu. The youth's feat becomes a measure for the warriors themselves: "kuryāma tad vayaṃ karma… kṛtavān yādṛg adya ekaḥ," "may we accomplish what he alone accomplished." It is telling that the Lord desires the same fate for himself and his kin. And again — an active remedy: "āśvāsaya uttarām," "comfort Uttara." The verse teaches that the highest honor to the fallen is to strive for his lot, not to mourn him; and that grief is healed by turning it into resolve and into care for others who suffer.
