ततस् ताव् आगतौ शर्वः प्रोवाच प्रहसन्न् इव ॥
स्वागतं वां नरश्रेष्ठाव् उत्तिष्ठेतां गतक्लमौ ॥
किं च वाम् ईप्सितं वीरौ मनसः क्षिप्रम् उच्यताम् ॥
येन कार्येण संप्राप्तौ युवां तत् साधयामि वाम् ॥
व्रियताम् आत्मनः श्रेयस् तत् सर्वं प्रददानि वाम् ॥
tatas tāv āgatau śarvaḥ provāca prahasann iva ||
svāgataṃ vāṃ naraśreṣṭhāv uttiṣṭhetāṃ gataklamau ||
kiṃ ca vām īpsitaṃ vīrau manasaḥ kṣipram ucyatām ||
yena kāryeṇa saṃprāptau yuvāṃ tat sādhayāmi vām ||
vriyatām ātmanaḥ śreyas tat sarvaṃ pradadāni vām ||
Then Sharva spoke to the two who had come, as if smiling: "Welcome to you, best of men! Rise, your weariness has passed. Whatever purpose has brought you here, that I shall accomplish for you; ask for your own good -- all that I shall grant to you."

Shiva meets the arrivals not with a trial but with tenderness: 'svagatam... uttishthetam gataklamau,' 'welcome; rise, your weariness has passed.' And before they ask, he promises: 'yat karyena samprapatau... tat sadhayami,' 'whatever purpose has brought you, that I shall accomplish.' It is telling that grace precedes the plea: the god knows the need before it is spoken. The verse teaches that the Lord's grace anticipates the petition: toward one who sincerely takes refuge it turns before the request can even be voiced; and meeting God dispels the very weariness of the road -- 'gataklamau.'
