शिक्षां तु दाशार्हो र्शयाम् वीर्यवान्
त्तमाध्यानि ण्डलानि विर्शयन्
ते तु नामाङ्किताः पीताः काज्वसंनिभाः
स्नायुद्धाः सुर्वाणः पृवो दीर्घगामिनः
वैवास्मराः स्वाता विविधानाः
रुधिरं गैः सार्धं प्राणिनां पुर् वे

uttadhamamadhyāni maṇḍani vidarśayan ||
te tu ṅkitāḥ tāḥ lajvalanasaṃnibhāḥ ||
snāyunaddhāḥ suparvāṇaḥ pṛthavo rghaminaḥ ||
vaiṇayasmayaśarāḥ svāya vividhānanāḥ ||
rudhiraṃ patagaiḥ rdhaṃ prāṇināṃ papur āhave ||

Translation

The valiant Dashārha displayed his skill in chariot-driving, tracing circles — the highest, the lowest, the middle. And those arrows, marked with his name, golden, like the fire of Time, bound with sinew, well-jointed, broad, far-flying, made of reed and iron, well-aimed, with varied heads — together with the birds, drank the blood of living beings in the battle.
