सात्यकिस् तु ततः क्रुद्धो धनुस् त्यक्त्वा महारथः ॥
गदां जग्राह महतीं भारद्वाजाय चाक्षिपत् ॥
ताम् आपतन्तीं सहसा पट्टबद्धाम् अयस्मयीम् ॥
न्यवारयच् छरैर् द्रोणो बहुभिर् बहुरूपिभिः ॥
अथान्यद् धनुर् आदाय सात्यकिः सत्यविक्रमः ॥
विव्याध बहुभिर् वीरं भारद्वाजं शिलाशितैः ॥
sātyakis tu tataḥ kruddho dhanus tyaktvā mahārathaḥ ||
gadāṃ jagrāha mahatīṃ bhāradvājāya cākṣipat ||
tām āpatantīṃ sahasā paṭṭabaddhām ayasmayīm ||
nyavārayac charair droṇo bahubhir bahurūpibhiḥ ||
athānyad dhanur ādāya sātyakiḥ satyavikramaḥ ||
vivyādha bahubhir vīraṃ bhāradvājaṃ śilāśitaiḥ ||
And Satyaki, enraged, the great warrior, cast away his bow, seized a great mace, and hurled it at the son of Bharadvaja. That mace, rushing suddenly, bound with iron bands, Drona warded off with many arrows of manifold shapes. Then, taking up another bow, Satyaki of true valor struck the hero, the son of Bharadvaja, with many arrows whetted on stone.

Deprived of his bow, Satyaki at once seizes a mace, and then a new bow: resourcefulness knows no hesitation. It is telling that the valiant always find a way to carry on the fight. The verse teaches that true steadfastness is inventive: one firm in will does not lose himself when his weapon is lost, but takes up what is at hand and continues the work — for it is not the weapon that fights, but the spirit that wields it.
