निर्जित्य समरे द्रोणं कृतिनं युद्धदुर्मदम् ॥
यथा पशुगणान् सिंहस् तद्वद् धन्ता सुतान् मम ॥
कृतवर्मादिभिः शूरैर् यत्तैर् बहुभिर् आहवे ॥
युयुधानो न शकितो हन्तुं यः पुरुषर्षभः ॥
नैतद् ईदृशकं युद्धं कृतवांस् तत्र फल्गुनः ॥
यादृशं कृतवान् युद्धं शिनेर् नप्ता महायशाः ॥

nirjitya samare droṇaṃ kṛtinaṃ yuddhadurmadam ||
yathā paśugaṇān siṃhas tadvad dhantā sutān mama ||
kṛtavarmādibhiḥ śūrair yattair bahubhir āhave ||
yuyudhāno na śakito hantuṃ yaḥ puruṣarṣabhaḥ ||
naitad īdṛśakaṃ yuddhaṃ kṛtavāṃs tatra phalgunaḥ ||
yādṛśaṃ kṛtavān yuddhaṃ śiner naptā mahāyaśāḥ ||

Translation

"Having conquered in battle Drona, the skilled one, furious in the fight — like a lion among herds of cattle, so too is the slayer of my sons. By Kritavarman and other heroes, many, striving in battle, Yuyudhana, that bull among men, could not be overcome and slain. Not such a battle did Phalguna wage there as the greatly renowned grandson of Shini waged."
