मिथः संयुध्यमानानां वृष्णिवीरेण धीमता ॥

गमनं रोचते मह्यं यत्र यातौ महारथौ ॥

"And just as is my affection for Arjuna, slayer of foes, so too it is for the Vrishni hero, Satvata, fierce in battle. I appointed the delight of Shaineya to an overwhelming burden; yet he, mighty one, went out of duty to a friend and out of respect. That very sound is heard — of unyielding heroes, fighting one another with the wise Vrishni hero."

The king's love for Satyaki equals his love for his brother Arjuna: "yathā… arjune… tathā vṛṣṇivīre". It is telling that the devotion of a friend who went "mitroparodhena gauravāt", from duty to a friend and from respect, is answered with equal love. The verse teaches that true affection does not divide the beloved into kin and stranger: a faithful friend is loved as a brother, for love measures not by blood but by devotion.
