थोद्भ्राम्य दां भीमः काण्डम् वान्तकः
द्रोणायासृजद् राजन् थाद् पुप्लुवे
साश्वसूध्वजं यानं द्रोस्यापोयत् दा
प्रामृद्नाच् हून् योधान् वायुर् वृक्षान् वौसा
तं पुनः रिव्रुस् ते पुत्रा थोत्तमम्
न्यं थम् स्था द्रोणः प्रतां रः

athodbhrāmya gadāṃ bhīmaḥ ladaṇḍam intakaḥ ||
droṇāvasṛjad rājan sa rathād avapupluve ||
śvatadhvajaṃ naṃ droṇasyāpothayat ta ||
prāmṛdnāc ca ban yodhān vāyur vṛkṣān ivauja ||
taṃ punaḥ parivavrus te tava putrā rathottamam ||
anyaṃ ca ratham āsthāya droṇaḥ praharatāṃ varaḥ ||

Translation

Then, having whirled his mace, Bhima, like the rod of Time, as Death [Yama], hurled it at Drona, O king; he leapt down from his chariot. It smashed then Drona's car with its horses, charioteer, and banner, and crushed many warriors, as the wind [fells] trees, by its force. Your sons surrounded him again, the finest warrior; and Drona, the foremost of strikers, mounted another chariot.
