विदितं ते महाबाहो यथा द्रोणो महारथः ॥
ग्रहणे धर्मराजस्य सर्वोपायेन वर्तते ॥
न च मे गमने कृत्यं तादृक् पार्षत विद्यते ॥
यादृशं रक्षणे राज्ञः कार्यम् आत्ययिकं हि नः ॥
एवम् उक्तो ऽस्मि पार्थेन प्रतिवक्तुं स्म नोत्सहे ॥
प्रयास्ये तत्र यत्रासौ मुमूर्षुः सैन्धवः स्थितः ॥
धर्मराजस्य वचने स्थातव्यम् अविशङ्कया ॥
सो ऽद्य यत्तो रणे पार्थं परिरक्ष युधिष्ठिरम् ॥
एतद् धि सर्वकार्याणां परमं कृत्यम् आहवे ॥

viditaṃ te mahābāho yathā droṇo mahārathaḥ ||
grahaṇe dharmarājasya sarvopāyena vartate ||
na ca me gamane kṛtyaṃ tādṛk pārṣata vidyate ||
yādṛśaṃ rakṣaṇe rājñaḥ kāryam ātyayikaṃ hi naḥ ||
evam ukto 'smi pārthena prativaktuṃ sma notsahe ||
prayāsye tatra yatrāsau mumūrṣuḥ saindhavaḥ sthitaḥ ||
dharmarājasya vacane sthātavyam aviśaṅkayā ||
so 'dya yatto raṇe pārthaṃ parirakṣa yudhiṣṭhiram ||
etad dhi sarvakāryāṇāṃ paramaṃ kṛtyam āhave ||

Translation

"Known to you, O mighty-armed one, how Drona, the great warrior, strives by every means to capture the King of Dharma. And I have no task in departing so important, O Parshata, as our urgent task of guarding the king. Thus charged by Partha [Yudhishthira], I dare not object; I shall go there, where that doomed Saindhava stands."
