हृद्गतं मनसा प्राह ध्यात्वा धर्मभृतां वरः ॥
दत्ता भीम त्वया संवित् कृतं गुरुवचस् तथा ॥
न हि तेषां जयो युद्धे येषां द्वेष्टासि पाण्डव ॥
दिष्ट्या जीवति संग्रामे सव्यसाची धनंजयः ॥
दिष्ट्या च कुशली वीरः सात्यकिः सत्यविक्रमः ॥
दिष्ट्या शृणोमि गर्जन्तौ वासुदेवधनंजयौ ॥
hṛdgataṃ manasā prāha dhyātvā dharmabhṛtāṃ varaḥ ||
dattā bhīma tvayā saṃvit kṛtaṃ guruvacas tathā ||
na hi teṣāṃ jayo yuddhe yeṣāṃ dveṣṭāsi pāṇḍava ||
diṣṭyā jīvati saṃgrāme savyasācī dhanaṃjayaḥ ||
diṣṭyā ca kuśalī vīraḥ sātyakiḥ satyavikramaḥ ||
diṣṭyā śṛṇomi garjantau vāsudevadhanaṃjayau ||
"The signal has been given by you, Bhima; the elder's word is fulfilled. For there is no victory in battle for those whose enemy you are, son of Pandu. By good fortune, Savyasachin Dhananjaya lives in the battle; and by good fortune the hero Satyaki, truly valorous, is unharmed; by good fortune I hear Vasudeva and Dhananjaya roaring."

Yudhishthira knows by the roar that they all live: "diṣṭyā jīvati… diṣṭyā kuśalī… diṣṭyā śṛṇomi" — the refrain "by good fortune" overflows with gratitude. "Na teṣāṃ jayo yeṣāṃ dveṣṭāsi" — there is no victory for those whom you hate. It is telling that his joy is for the safety of those dear to him, not for his own sake. The verse teaches that a loving heart rejoices above all in the well-being of those close to it; and the news that they are alive is, for it, fortune's greatest mercy.
