अहरत् तत् पुनश् चैव शरैर् ऊर्ध्वं धनंजयः ॥
दुर्हृदाम् अप्रहर्षाय सुहृदां हर्षणाय च ॥
शरैः कदम्बकीकृत्य काले तस्मिंश् च पाण्डवः ॥
समन्तपञ्चकाद् बाह्यं शिरस् तद् व्यहरत् ततः ॥
एतस्मिन्न् एव काले तु वृद्धक्षत्रो महीपतिः ॥
संध्याम् उपास्ते तेजस्वी संबन्धी तव मारिष ॥
उपासीनस्य तस्याथ कृष्णकेशं सकुण्डलम् ॥
सिन्धुराजस्य मूर्धानम् उत्सङ्गे समपातयत् ॥
aharat tat punaś caiva śarair ūrdhvaṃ dhanaṃjayaḥ ||
durhṛdām apraharṣāya suhṛdāṃ harṣaṇāya ca ||
śaraiḥ kadambakīkṛtya kāle tasmiṃś ca pāṇḍavaḥ ||
samantapañcakād bāhyaṃ śiras tad vyaharat tataḥ ||
etasminn eva kāle tu vṛddhakṣatro mahīpatiḥ ||
saṃdhyām upāste tejasvī saṃbandhī tava māriṣa ||
upāsīnasya tasyātha kṛṣṇakeśaṃ sakuṇḍalam ||
sindhurājasya mūrdhānam utsaṅge samapātayat ||
And again Dhananjaya carried off that head with arrows aloft, to the sorrow of enemies and to the joy of friends. Having turned it with arrows into a cluster, and at that needed moment, the Pandava then carried that head outward from Samantapanchaka. At this very time Vriddhakshatra, lord of the earth, the radiant one, was performing the sandhya — your kinsman by marriage, O honored one. Then, upon him who was performing it, [Arjuna] let fall into his lap the head of the Sindhu king, with black locks and earrings.

Arjuna carries the head on his arrows as though in his cupped hands, straight to the lap of the praying father: supreme skill serves the finest of designs. Telling is the coincidence of the moments — the father is performing the sandhya at precisely that instant: providence draws the threads together. The verse teaches that a righteous deed, guided from above, falls into the exact measure of time and place; and what would seem unthinkable is accomplished as though fate itself had set everything in its place.
