The name is explained and closed, and the description of the body's position during this lock begins. Worth noting is how this whole book is built: name, explanation of the name, position of the body, action, benefit. This order is kept from the start and makes the exposition clear.
A good word must be said about the very cast of such treatises. They do not philosophize and do not preach; they describe how a thing is done — and so they can be checked. Herein lies their difference from the books examined before. Tripuratapini, Bhavana, and Rudra-hridaya are treatises that assert; Yoga-kundalini is a treatise that demonstrates. And one must dispute not its content, but what it promises beyond its content.
The Vaishnava side treats such a cast with respect and has compositions of the same kind of her own: manuals on service, setting down how to clean, how to cook, how to dress, how to receive a guest. These compositions are honored in her literature on a level with theological ones, and their compiler, Sanatana Gosvami, stands in her ranks alongside the theologians. The reason is simple. Teaching is expounded by arguments, but lived by hands; and a book explaining what to do with one's hands is not a lower class of writing, but the necessary other half of the matter.
