Three verbs in a row describe the order: gatva, "having gone"; samgrihya, "having received"; kuryat, "shall he perform." This order deserves stating, for it is the general order of every transmission. First go — that is, change your place and spend labor; then receive — that is, take from someone's hands; and only then do.
Worth noting is the first: it says "having gone there," not "having summoned him to oneself." It is the disciple who goes, and this is firm in Indian practice: one goes to a teaching, not summons it to one's house. This rule, for all its outward form, has sense. One who has gone has already spent a part of himself on the matter; one who received it at home has spent nothing, and so values it accordingly.
The Vaishnava side holds this rule and knows its worth. Her books constantly tell of how people walked: Sanatana went to Chaitanya on foot through forests; Narada as a child went after the sages. This walking is never abridged in the stories, and, it seems, deliberately.
Separately, a word must be said about atandrita, "un-lazy, untired," from tandra, "listlessness, drowsiness." This is the same fourth hindrance (1.59); and the requirement of its absence is set at the beginning. Everyone begins briskly; the question is what happens after a month — and the book has already spoken of that in its list of ten.
