Here, after a beggar's table, the Pandavas partake of royal fare. It is telling that having shared alms yesterday, today they sit before dishes of gold: the turns of fortune are fickle, and the steadfast pass equally through want and plenty. The wise are attached neither to scarcity nor to abundance, receiving both with an even mind. So the scripture shows a change of lot, and a feast of gold does not exalt those whom poverty never diminished.
