जितारयो महाप्राज्ञाः सत्यधर्मपरायणाः ॥
मुदं परमिकां प्राप्तास् तत्रोषुः पाण्डुनन्दनाः ॥
कुर्वाणाः पौरकार्याणि सर्वाणि पुरुषर्षभाः ॥
आसां चक्रुर् महार्हेषु पार्थिवेष्व् आसनेषु च ॥

Here the king appears as a servant of his subjects. It is telling that the Pandavas 'attend to all the affairs of the citizens': true power cares for the people, not for itself. In this lies a lesson: the throne is a burden of service, not a license for idleness. Thus the scripture shows the active piety of rulers; and the people's prosperity is the fruit of their labors.
