वैशंपायन उवाच
इन्द्रप्रस्थे वसन्तस् ते जघ्नुर् अन्यान् नराधिपान् ॥
शासनाद् धृतराष्ट्रस्य राज्ञः शांतनवस्य च ॥
आश्रित्य धर्मराजानं सर्वलोको ऽवसत् सुखम् ॥
पुण्यलक्षणकर्माणं स्वदेहम् इव देहिनः ॥
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
indraprasthe vasantas te jaghnur anyān narādhipān ||
śāsanād dhṛtarāṣṭrasya rājñaḥ śāṃtanavasya ca ||
āśritya dharmarājānaṃ sarvaloko 'vasat sukham ||
puṇyalakṣaṇakarmāṇaṃ svadeham iva dehinaḥ ||
Vaishampayana said: "Dwelling in Indraprastha, they subdued other kings, by the command of Dhritarashtra and the king, son of Shantanu; relying on the King of Dharma, the whole world dwelt in happiness — on the king of auspicious marks and deeds, as embodied beings rely on their own body."

Here the righteous king is the support of the whole world, as the body is to the soul. It is telling that subjects rely on their sovereign as an embodied being relies on its own body: a righteous ruler is the foundation of everyone's well-being. Under the shelter of a righteous king, the whole people find peace. Thus scripture reveals the good governance of Yudhishthira; and the happiness of the world is the fruit of his righteousness.
