द्रौपदी च सुभद्रा च वासांसि आभरणानि चdraupadī ca subhadrā ca vāsāṃsi ābharaṇāni caDraupadi and Subhadra, garments and ornaments,
प्रयच्छेतां महार्हाणि स्त्रीणां ते स्म मदोत्कटेprayacchetāṃ mahārhāṇi strīṇāṃ te sma madotkaṭeprecious ones, gave to those women, intoxicated with [merriment];
काः चित् प्रहृष्टाः ननृतुः चुक्रुशुः च तथा अपराःkāḥ cit prahṛṣṭāḥ nanṛtuḥ cukruśuḥ ca tathā aparāḥsome, rejoicing, danced, others cried out,
जहसुः च अपराः नार्यः पपुः च अन्याः वरासवम्jahasuḥ ca aparāḥ nāryaḥ papuḥ ca anyāḥ varāsavamother women laughed, while yet others drank choice wine;
रुरुदुः च अपराः तत्र प्रजघ्नुः च परस्परम्ruruduḥ ca aparāḥ tatra prajaghnuḥ ca parasparamsome there wept and struck one another,

Here even amid the general merriment the princesses show generosity. It is telling that Draupadi and Subhadra bestow garments upon the women: the noble remember others even in their own joy. Generosity adorns every celebration. Thus scripture reveals a vivid picture of the festival; and amid this profusion of color the friends will withdraw for conversation.
