ततस् ते भरतश्रेष्ठ काशिराजसुते शुभे ॥
तं बालम् अभिपत्याशु प्रस्नवैर् अभिषिञ्चताम् ॥
ततः स राजा संहृष्टः सर्वं तद् उपलभ्य च ॥
अपृच्छन् नवहेमाभां राक्षसीं ताम् अराक्षसीम् ॥
का त्वं कमलगर्भाभे मम पुत्रप्रदायिनी ॥
कामया ब्रूहि कल्याणि देवता प्रतिभासि मे ॥

tatas te bharataśreṣṭha kāśirājasute śubhe ||
taṃ bālam abhipatyāśu prasnavair abhiṣiñcatām ||
tataḥ sa rājā saṃhṛṣṭaḥ sarvaṃ tad upalabhya ca ||
apṛcchan navahemābhāṃ rākṣasīṃ tām arākṣasīm ||
kā tvaṃ kamalagarbhābhe mama putrapradāyinī ||
kāmayā brūhi kalyāṇi devatā pratibhāsi me ||

सर्वम् तत् उपलभ्य चsarvam tat upalabhya cahaving understood all of it,
अपृच्छत् नव-हेम-आभाम्apṛcchat nava-hema-ābhāmasked her, radiant as new gold,
राक्षसीम् ताम् अराक्षसीम्rākṣasīm tām arākṣasīmthat rakshasi, [now] no longer a rakshasi:
का त्वम् कमल-गर्भ-आभेkā tvam kamala-garbha-ābhe"who are you, [shining] like the heart of a lotus,
मम पुत्र-प्रदायिनीmama putra-pradāyinīthe giver of my son?
कामया ब्रूहि कल्याणिkāmayā brūhi kalyāṇispeak of your own free will, O gracious one;
देवता प्रतिभासि मेdevatā pratibhāsi meyou seem to me a deity."

Traducción

"Then, O best of the Bharatas, the auspicious daughters of the king of Kashi, rushing to that child, at once sprinkled him with streams of milk; and the joyful king, having understood all of it, asked that rakshasi, radiant as new gold and now no longer a rakshasi: 'Who are you, shining like the heart of a lotus, the giver of my son? Speak of your own free will, O gracious one; you seem to me a deity.'"
