अथ वा मूलघातेन द्विषतां मधुसूदन ॥
फलनिर्वृत्तिर् इद्धा स्यात् तन् नृशंसतरं भवेत् ॥
या तु त्यागेन शान्तिः स्यात् तद् ऋते वध एव सः ॥
संशयाच् च समुच्छेदाद् द्विषताम् आत्मनस् तथा ॥
न च त्यक्तुं तद् इच्छामो न चेच्छामः कुलक्षयम् ॥
अत्र या प्रणिपातेन शान्तिः सैव गरीयसी ॥
सर्वथा यतमानानाम् अयुद्धम् अभिकाङ्क्षताम् ॥
सान्त्वे प्रतिहते युद्धं प्रसिद्धम् अपराक्रमम् ॥
प्रतिघातेन सान्त्वस्य दारुणं संप्रवर्तते ॥
तच् छुनाम् इव गोपादे पण्डितैर् उपलक्षितम् ॥

atha vā mūlaghātena dviṣatāṃ madhusūdana ||
phalanirvṛttir iddhā syāt tan nṛśaṃsataraṃ bhavet ||
yā tu tyāgena śāntiḥ syāt tad ṛte vadha eva saḥ ||
saṃśayāc ca samucchedād dviṣatām ātmanas tathā ||
na ca tyaktuṃ tad icchāmo na cecchāmaḥ kulakṣayam ||
atra yā praṇipātena śāntiḥ saiva garīyasī ||
sarvathā yatamānānām ayuddham abhikāṅkṣatām ||
sāntve pratihate yuddhaṃ prasiddham aparākramam ||
pratighātena sāntvasya dāruṇaṃ saṃpravartate ||
tac chunām iva gopāde paṇḍitair upalakṣitam ||

Traducción

He makes the unreal seem real and thereby deludes all beings. Possessed of such qualities, ever devoted to righteousness and endowed with divinity, the slayer of Madhu, this mighty-armed one, incapable of decay, will come here to prevent the slaughter of the Kurus.
