दुर्योधनसमादिष्टाः सोदर्याः सप्त मारिष ॥
भीमसेनम् अभिद्रुत्य संरब्धाः पर्यवारयन् ॥
ते समासाद्य कौन्तेयम् आवृण्वञ् शरवृष्टिभिः ॥
पर्वतं वारिधाराभिः प्रावृषीव बलाहकाः ॥
ते ऽपीडयन् भीमसेनं क्रुद्धाः सप्त महारथाः ॥
प्रजासंहरणे राजन् सोमं सप्त ग्रहा इव ॥
duryodhanasamādiṣṭāḥ sodaryāḥ sapta māriṣa ||
bhīmasenam abhidrutya saṃrabdhāḥ paryavārayan ||
te samāsādya kaunteyam āvṛṇvañ śaravṛṣṭibhiḥ ||
parvataṃ vāridhārābhiḥ prāvṛṣīva balāhakāḥ ||
te 'pīḍayan bhīmasenaṃ kruddhāḥ sapta mahārathāḥ ||
prajāsaṃharaṇe rājan somaṃ sapta grahā iva ||
Sent by Duryodhana, the seven full brothers, O venerable one, rushed upon Bhimasena and, inflamed, surrounded him. Reaching Kaunteya, they covered him with showers of arrows, as clouds in the rainy season cover a mountain with streams of water. The seven enraged great warriors pressed hard upon Bhimasena, O king, as the seven planets beset the moon at the destruction of the world's creatures.

Seven surround one — the image of a world's end, where seven baleful planets besiege the moon. It is telling that superior numbers are cast as a sign of the world's dissolution: many fall upon one only where order itself is breaking down. The verse teaches that seven descending on a single man is no valor but a mark of every measure overturned; the omen of ruin lies not in the strength of the besiegers but in their very multitude against one.
