Then your sons rushed at him together, and your other warriors, hastening, having placed, O Bharata, the chief of warriors, Duhshasana your son, O Ajamidha, at the front. Surrounding him on all sides in battle, they struck at the son of Shini [Satyaki], steadfast in the ranks; but he, the foremost of the Satvatas, the hero, repelled them with a net of arrows. Having swiftly repelled them, the slayer of foes, the grandson of Shini, with feathered, fire-like arrows, struck down Duhshasana's horses as well, having raised his bow, O Ajamidha.

Dhritarashtra's sons, en masse, with Duhshasana at their head, surround one man — and the lone hero repels them all with a net of arrows. It is telling that once again a disproportionate multitude falls upon a single man: such disorder of measure is the mark of an unjust cause. The verse teaches that numbers do not overcome undivided valor; and one who stands alone against many, defending a friend, turns back their assault, for behind him stands the firmness of righteousness, while behind them is only the haste of fear.
