Upadeśāmṛta

"The Nectar of Instruction" — eleven verses by Rūpa Gosvāmī, his shortest and most practical book. It begins with mastering six urges — of speech, mind, anger, tongue, belly and genitals — names six things that ruin devotion and six that help it, and teaches how to honour devotees without judging them by visible faults. The eighth verse, in Rūpa's own words, is the essence of all instruction: engage the tongue and mind in Kṛṣṇa's name and remembrance, live in Vraja and follow those who love Him. The last three verses climb a ladder of holy places and loving hearts to Rādhā-kuṇḍa, Rādhā's lake, which reveals love to anyone who bathes in it even once.
