अनुवाद

Know that the most blessed Vidura, foremost among those with worthy offspring, was born in this world as the foremost of the wise — as a portion of Atri. And from a portion of Kali was born on earth King Duryodhana, evil-minded and ill-natured, who brought dishonor upon the house of Kuru. He is the embodied spirit of Kali, hateful to the whole world, the vilest of men, he who destroyed the whole earth, by whom was kindled the great enmity that brings ruin upon all beings. A hundred brothers headed by Duhshasana, doers of cruel deeds, all of them Paulastyas (descendants of Pulastya, that is, rakshasas), were born among men: Durmukha, Duhsaha, and others not named — companions of Duryodhana, all Paulastyas, O bull among the Bharatas. Know, O king, that King Yudhishthira is a portion of the god Dharma, Bhimasena a portion of the Wind, and Arjuna a portion of the king of the gods [Indra]. Nakula and Sahadeva are two portions of the Ashvins, unmatched in beauty on earth, the delight of all worlds. He who is renowned as the valiant son of Soma, Suvarcas — he became the far-famed Abhimanyu, son of Arjuna. Know too, O king, that the great warrior Dhrishtadyumna is a portion of the god Agni; and Shikhandin, O king, who was a woman turned man, know as an embodied rakshasa. The five who were the sons of Draupadi, O bull among the Bharatas — know them, O Bharata, as the host of the Vishvedevas. That great warrior Karna, who was born clad in innate armor — know him as the unsurpassed portion of the sun-god (Divakara). And He who is called Narayana, the god of gods, eternal — his portion among men was the valiant Vasudeva (Krishna). The portion of the serpent Shesha is the mighty Baladeva (Balarama); and know Pradyumna, a man of great might, as the embodied Sanatkumara. Thus many portions of the celestials were born in the lineage of Vasudeva, increasing his line.
