अनुवाद

Vyasa said: 'You know dharma, O Satyavati, both the higher and the lower; and I know how your mind, O knower of dharma, is fixed upon dharma. Therefore I, at your command, having dharma as my aim and cause, shall accomplish what you desire, for this custom has been seen since ancient times. To my brother I shall give sons equal to Mitra and Varuna; but let those two queens observe the vow that I here prescribe — a year, as is proper; then they will become pure, for no woman who has not kept the vow shall approach me.'
