यक्षराक्षसगन्धर्वाः पिशाचोरगमानवाः ॥
विस्तरं कुरुवंशस्य श्रीमतः कथयन्ति ते ॥
नारदप्रभृतीनां च देवर्षीणां मया श्रुतम् ॥
गुणान् कथयतां वीर पूर्वेषां तव धीमताम् ॥
स्वयं चापि मया दृष्टश् चरता सागराम्बराम् ॥
इमां वसुमतीं कृत्स्नां प्रभावः स्वकुलस्य ते ॥
yakṣarākṣasagandharvāḥ piśācoragamānavāḥ ||
vistaraṃ kuruvaṃśasya śrīmataḥ kathayanti te ||
nāradaprabhṛtīnāṃ ca devarṣīṇāṃ mayā śrutam ||
guṇān kathayatāṃ vīra pūrveṣāṃ tava dhīmatām ||
svayaṃ cāpi mayā dṛṣṭaś caratā sāgarāmbarām ||
imāṃ vasumatīṃ kṛtsnāṃ prabhāvaḥ svakulasya te ||
"Of your splendid Kuru lineage, yakshas, rakshasas, gandharvas, pishachas, serpents, and humans speak at length. And from Narada and other divine seers I have heard them recount the virtues of your wise forefathers, O hero; and I myself, wandering across this whole ocean-girdled earth, have seen the might of your family."

Here the fame of a righteous lineage is shown to be known throughout all worlds. It is telling that the Kuru lineage is spoken of by humans, spirits, and divine seers alike: the good repute of the worthy crosses the bounds of earth. Here it is seen that true valor and virtue do not stay hidden: word of them reaches both the heavens and the world below. Thus the scripture shows that the virtues of ancestors are an inheritance that glorifies their descendants; and Arjuna is renowned not only in himself, but through the greatness of his lineage.
