वेदे धनुषि चाचार्यम् अभिजानामि ते ऽर्जुन ॥
विश्रुतं त्रिषु लोकेषु भारद्वाजं यशस्विनम् ॥
धर्मं वायुं च शक्रं च विजानाम्य् अश्विनौ तथा ॥
पाण्डुं च कुरुशार्दूल षड् एतान् कुलवर्धनान् ॥
पितॄन् एतान् अहं पार्थ देवमानुषसत्तमान् ॥
दिव्यात्मानो महात्मानः सर्वशस्त्रभृतां वराः ॥
भवन्तो भ्रातरः शूराः सर्वे सुचरितव्रताः ॥
vede dhanuṣi cācāryam abhijānāmi te 'rjuna ||
viśrutaṃ triṣu lokeṣu bhāradvājaṃ yaśasvinam ||
dharmaṃ vāyuṃ ca śakraṃ ca vijānāmy aśvinau tathā ||
pāṇḍuṃ ca kuruśārdūla ṣaḍ etān kulavardhanān ||
pitṝn etān ahaṃ pārtha devamānuṣasattamān ||
divyātmāno mahātmānaḥ sarvaśastrabhṛtāṃ varāḥ ||
bhavanto bhrātaraḥ śūrāḥ sarve sucaritavratāḥ ||
"I know your teacher in the Veda and the bow, O Arjuna -- the renowned Bharadvaja, famed in the three worlds. I know Dharma, Vayu, Shakra, and both Ashvins, and Pandu, O tiger among the Kurus -- these six, the increasers of the lineage, your fathers, O Partha, best among gods and men. Divine in soul, great, the best of all who bear weapons, you, the brothers, are heroes, all virtuous in your vows."

Here the divine origin of the Pandavas comes to light. It is telling that the gandharva counts among their fathers the very gods -- Dharma, Vayu, Indra, the Ashvins: the brothers are born of celestials and taught by the finest of teachers. Here it is revealed that the Pandavas are no ordinary mortals, but partakers of the divine, sent with a high purpose. Thus the scripture shows the greatness of their lineage and birth; and the gandharva's own praise testifies that they are marked from above.
