"And the whole six-limbed Veda entered into him, while he still dwelt in the womb, for the good of the race of Bhrigu. He, because of the killing of his forefathers, is surely wrathful and wishes to slay you -- by his divine radiance your eyes have been stolen. Entreat him, then, this Aurva, my most excellent son, and he, pleased by your obeisance, will release your sight."

Here the wondrous infant appears as a vessel of the Veda itself. It is significant that the six-limbed Veda entered him while still in the womb: one born to continue the line of Bhrigu carries sacred knowledge before he is even born. In this is a sign that righteous souls arrive already marked with wisdom from above. Significant, too, is the remedy the mother points to: "entreat him, bowing down" -- humility and supplication soften even the anger of the mighty. Thus the scripture shows that before the power of the holy one must bow; and the path to forgiveness lies in obeisance and entreaty, not in fresh resistance.
