वैशंपायन उवाच
तं तथा भाषमाणं तु विदुरः प्रत्यभाषत ॥
नित्यं भवतु ते बुद्धिर् एषा राजञ् शतं समाः ॥

Here the wise man strengthens the good impulse in the king. It is telling in Vidura's wish, "may this understanding remain forever" — he hopes that the good thought will not be fleeting. Here the art of the good counselor shows itself: to uphold, in a wavering man, that which is righteous in him. Thus scripture reveals Vidura's benevolence; and his word is a quiet plea for the constancy of good in an inconstant heart.
