शार्ङ्गका ऊचुः
न विद्म वै वयं मातर् हृतम् आखुम् इतः पुरा ॥
अविज्ञाय न शक्ष्यामो बिलम् आविशतुं वयम् ॥

The Sharngakas said: "We do not know, mother, that the mouse was carried off from here just now; without knowing this ourselves, we cannot enter the hole."

Here the children do not blindly trust even their mother's certainty. It is telling that they do not risk their lives on another's word without verifying it themselves: where life is at stake, the wise do not rely on the unconfirmed. Here is sober prudence. So the scripture shows the good sense of the fledglings; and they will set forth a deeper argument.
