शार्ङ्गका ऊचुः
न त्वं मिथ्योपचारेण मोक्षयेथा भयं महत् ॥
समाकुलेषु ज्ञानेषु न बुद्धिकृतम् एव तत् ॥
न चोपकृतम् अस्माभिर् न चास्मान् वेत्थ ये वयम् ॥
पीड्यमाना भरस्य् अस्मान् का सती के वयं तव ॥
śārṅgakā ūcuḥ
na tvaṃ mithyopacāreṇa mokṣayethā bhayaṃ mahat ||
samākuleṣu jñāneṣu na buddhikṛtam eva tat ||
na copakṛtam asmābhir na cāsmān vettha ye vayam ||
pīḍyamānā bharasy asmān kā satī ke vayaṃ tava ||
The Sharngakas said: "You cannot deliver us from great danger by a false assurance; when the information is confused, this is not firmly established by reason; and no service has been rendered by us to you, nor do you know who we are; suffering yourself, you care for us — what kin are you to us, who are we to you?"

Here the children honor truth above comforting falsehood. The words are telling: 'a false assurance cannot deliver from great danger' — illusory comfort, not grounded in knowledge, does not save. Also telling is their self-renunciation: they marvel that their mother suffers for them, not knowing them and owing them nothing. In this lies fidelity to truth and concern for their mother above themselves. So the scripture shows the nobility of the fledglings; and they reject false peace for the sake of truth.
