व्यूढानीकः सभाद्वारम् उपतिष्ठस्व दंशितः ॥
यावद् आख्याम्य् अहं चैतत् कृष्णायाक्लिष्टकर्मणे ॥
स प्रविश्य सभां वीरः सिंहो गिरिगुहाम् इव ॥
आचष्ट तम् अभिप्रायं केशवाय महात्मने ॥
धृतराष्ट्रं ततश् चैव विदुरं चान्वभाषत ॥
तेषाम् एतम् अभिप्रायम् आचचक्षे स्मयन्न् इव ॥
धर्माद् अपेतम् अर्थाच् च कर्म साधुविगर्हितम् ॥
मन्दाः कर्तुम् इहेच्छन्ति न चावाप्यं कथं चन ॥
पुरा विकुर्वते मूढाः पापात्मानः समागताः ॥
धर्षिताः काममन्युभ्यां क्रोधलोभवशानुगाः ॥

ācaṣṭa tam abhiprāyaṃ keśavāya mahātmane ||

dharmād apetam arthāc ca karma sādhuvigarhitam ||
mandāḥ kartum ihecchanti na cāvāpyaṃ kathaṃ cana ||
purā vikurvate mūḍhāḥ pāpātmānaḥ samāgatāḥ ||
dharṣitāḥ kāmamanyubhyāṃ krodhalobhavaśānugāḥ ||

अनुवाद

"Draw up the battle lines and put on your armor, and stand at the door of the assembly while I tell all this to Krishna, untiring in his deeds." Then the hero entered the assembly like a lion entering a mountain cave, and told the great-souled Keshava of this design. Then, looking at Dhritarashtra and Vidura, he told them the plan, as if smiling: "These fools wish to do here a deed departed from dharma and from benefit, condemned by the noble and in no way achievable. These evil-souled fools have assembled and are already ready to begin their folly: they are overcome by desire and anger, subject to the sway of wrath and greed."
