अयम् इच्छन् हि तान् सर्वान् यतमानाञ् जनार्दनः ॥
सिंहो मृगान् इव क्रुद्धो गमयेद् यमसादनम् ॥
न त्व् अयं निन्दितं कर्म कुर्यात् कृष्णः कथं चन ॥
न च धर्माद् अपक्रामेद् अच्युतः पुरुषोत्तमः ॥
विदुरेणैवम् उक्ते तु केशवो वाक्यम् अब्रवीत् ॥
धृतराष्ट्रम् अभिप्रेक्ष्य सुहृदां शृण्वतां मिथः ॥
राजन्न् एते यदि क्रुद्धा मां निगृह्णीयुर् ओजसा ॥
एते वा माम् अहं वैनान् अनुजानीहि पार्थिव ॥
एतान् हि सर्वान् संरब्धान् नियन्तुम् अहम् उत्सहे ॥
न त्व् अहं निन्दितं कर्म कुर्यां पापं कथं चन ॥

vidureṇaivam ukte tu keśavo vākyam abravīt ||
dhṛtarāṣṭram abhiprekṣya suhṛdāṃ śṛṇvatāṃ mithaḥ ||
rājann ete yadi kruddhā māṃ nigṛhṇīyur ojasā ||
ete vā mām ahaṃ vainān anujānīhi pārthiva ||
etān hi sarvān saṃrabdhān niyantum aham utsahe ||
na tv ahaṃ ninditaṃ karma kuryāṃ pāpaṃ kathaṃ cana ||
"If Janardana wished, enraged, he would send all these men, who strive against him, to the abode of Yama, as a lion sends beasts. But this Krishna will never commit a condemned deed, and Achyuta, the best of men, will not depart from dharma." When Vidura had said this, Keshava, looking at Dhritarashtra while friends listened to one another, said: "O king, if these enraged men wish to seize me by force — or if I myself seize them — grant me leave, O lord of the earth. I am able to subdue all these enraged men, but I myself will never commit a deed that is condemned and sinful."
