"Having manifested the god Sankarshana — Yourself by Yourself — You, Krishna, Yourself created Pradyumna, born from You. From Pradyumna You manifested Aniruddha, known as the imperishable Vishnu; and Aniruddha in truth created me, Brahma, the sustainer of the worlds. I am filled with Vasudeva and made by You alone. Therefore, O Sovereign, having divided Yourself into parts, take birth as a human. There, for the happiness of all worlds, having slain the asuras, established dharma, and won renown, You will truly attain yoga. You, O measurelessly mighty one, the brahmarshis and the gods in this world devotedly extol under many names as the Paramatma. All the hosts of beings abide in You, having taken You as their refuge, O mighty-armed giver of boons. The brahmins call You the bridge of the world — without beginning, middle, or end, boundless in yoga."

The conclusion of the account directly links the cosmic Vasudeva-tattva to the historical Krishna. The one who is the source of Sankarshana, Pradyumna, Aniruddha, and Brahma assumes the human condition for the sake of dharma and the good of the worlds; thus the protection of the Pandavas carries not merely a military but an ontological significance.
