अनुवाद

Shri Krishna said: "Jishnu, you once vowed to slay Bhishma in battle. Established in the kshatriya dharma, Partha, how then will you fail to kill him? Cast him down from his chariot, Partha, like a tree struck down by the thunderbolt. Without slaying the son of Ganga in battle, you will not gain victory. This was ordained by the gods long ago, and it will come to pass for you inevitably: the ancient Indra shall be the slayer of Bhishma; it cannot be otherwise. For no one but you is able to kill the unconquerable Bhishma, who is like Antaka with jaws agape — not even the wielder of the thunderbolt himself. Slay Bhishma, mighty-armed one, and hear this word of mine — what the great-wise Brihaspati once said to Shakra: 'Even if he is elder and endowed with virtues, but has come as an assailant and a killer, he should be slain. Such is the eternal, established law of the kshatriyas, Dhananjaya: they must fight, protect, and offer sacrifice without envy.'"
