विदन्त्य् असुरमायां ये सुघोरा घोरचक्षुषः ॥
यवनाः पारदाश् चैव शकाश् च सुनिकैः सह ॥
गोयोनिप्रभवा म्लेच्छाः कालकल्पाः प्रहारिणः ॥
दार्वाभिसारा दरदाः पुण्ड्राश् च सह बाह्लिकैः ॥
न ते स्म शक्याः संख्यातुं व्राताः शतसहस्रशः ॥
वृष्टिस् तथाविधा ह्य् आसीच् छलभानाम् इवायतिः ॥
vidanty asuramāyāṃ ye sughorā ghoracakṣuṣaḥ ||
yavanāḥ pāradāś caiva śakāś ca sunikaiḥ saha ||
goyoniprabhavā mlecchāḥ kālakalpāḥ prahāriṇaḥ ||
dārvābhisārā daradāḥ puṇḍrāś ca saha bāhlikaiḥ ||
na te sma śakyāḥ saṃkhyātuṃ vrātāḥ śatasahasraśaḥ ||
vṛṣṭis tathāvidhā hy āsīc chalabhānām ivāyatiḥ ||
[Those] who know asura sorcery, most cruel, with terrible eyes — the Yavanas and Paradas, and the Shakas with the Sunikas, mlecchas born of a cow's womb, like Death-Kala, striking, the Darvabhisaras, the Daradas, and the Pundras with the Bahlikas — they could not be counted, hosts by the hundreds of thousands; for such was the downpour [of arrows], like a swarm of locusts.

The list of foreign hosts — Yavanas, Shakas, Paradas — 'na śakyāḥ saṃkhyātum,' countless as locusts. On Duryodhana's side are gathered also those who possess 'asuramāyā,' asura sorcery. It is telling that unrighteousness draws to itself dark, magical powers as well. The verse teaches that lawlessness attracts everything dark: to the unrighteous cause flock hosts possessing the sorcery of asuras, countless as locusts; yet even they are powerless before the one shadowed by the Lord — for sorcery and numbers cannot overcome the truth behind which God stands.
