संजय उवाच
एवम् उक्त्वार्जुनं राजा त्रिभिर् मर्मातिगैः शरैः ॥
प्रत्यविध्यन् महावेगैश् चतुर्भिश् चतुरो हयान् ॥
वासुदेवं च दशभिः प्रत्यविध्यत् स्तनान्तरे ॥
प्रतोदं चास्य भल्लेन छित्त्वा भूमाव् अपातयत् ॥

evam uktvārjunaṃ rājā tribhir marmātigaiḥ śaraiḥ ||
pratyavidhyan mahāvegaiś caturbhiś caturo hayān ||
vāsudevaṃ ca daśabhiḥ pratyavidhyat stanāntare ||
pratodaṃ cāsya bhallena chittvā bhūmāv apātayat ||

त्रिभिः मर्मातिगैः शरैःtribhiḥ marmātigaiḥ śaraiḥwith three deeply-piercing arrows; with three arrows striking the vital spots
प्रत्यविध्यत् महावेगैःpratyavidhyat mahāvegaiḥpierced [him] in return with swift; pierced in return with fleet-flying
चतुर्भिः चतुरः हयान्caturbhiḥ caturaḥ hayānfour [arrows] — the four horses; with four [arrows] — the four horses
वासुदेवम् च दशभिःvāsudevam ca daśabhiḥand Vasudeva — with ten; and Vasudeva — with ten [arrows]
प्रत्यविध्यत् स्तनान्तरेpratyavidhyat stanāntarepierced between the nipples; struck him in the chest, between the nipples
प्रतोदम् च अस्य भल्लेनpratodam ca asya bhallenaand his goad with a broad-headed [arrow]; and his driving-staff with a bhalla arrow
छित्त्वा भूमौ अपातयत्chittvā bhūmau apātayathaving cut it, cast it to the ground; having cut it down, felled it to the ground
अनुवाद

Having thus spoken to Arjuna, the king [Duryodhana] pierced him in return with three swift arrows that strike the vital places, and the four horses with four; and he pierced Vasudeva with ten arrows between the nipples, and cutting his goad with a broad-headed shaft, cast it to the ground.
