आजानेयैर् महावेगैर् नानादेशसमुत्थितैः ॥
पार्वतीयैर् नदीजैश् च सैन्धवैश् च हयोत्तमैः ॥
कुरुयोधवरा राजंस् तव पुत्रं परीप्सवः ॥
धनंजयरथं शीघ्रं सर्वतः समुपाद्रवन् ॥

अनुवाद
On thoroughbred, swiftest horses hailing from various lands -- mountain-bred, river-bred, and Sindhu horses, the finest steeds -- the foremost warriors of the Kurus, O king, desiring to save your son, swiftly rushed from every side toward the chariot of Dhananjaya.

"Tava putram parīpsavaḥ" -- this whole gathering of the finest horses and warriors is moved by one thing: to shield your son. Dhritarashtra's fatherly attachment, for which so much strength is mustered, is the very root that destroys the dynasty. It is telling that the greatest host here serves not truth but the rescue of the instigator. The verse teaches that force set to defend the wrongful only multiplies the loss to come, for it is not the cause but the guilt that is being guarded.
