सात्यकिर् उवाच
धनंजयस्य पदवीं धर्मराजस्य शासनात् ॥
गच्छामि स्वस्ति ते ब्रह्मन् न मे कालात्ययो भवेत् ॥
संजय उवाच
एतावद् उक्त्वा शैनेय आचार्यं परिवर्जयन् ॥
प्रयातः सहसा राजन् सारथिं चेदम् अब्रवीत् ॥
द्रोणः करिष्यते यत्नं सर्वथा मम वारणे ॥
यत्तो याहि रणे सूत शृणु चेदं वचः परम् ॥
sātyakir uvāca
dhanaṃjayasya padavīṃ dharmarājasya śāsanāt ||
gacchāmi svasti te brahman na me kālātyayo bhavet ||
saṃjaya uvāca
etāvad uktvā śaineya ācāryaṃ parivarjayan ||
prayātaḥ sahasā rājan sārathiṃ cedam abravīt ||
droṇaḥ kariṣyate yatnaṃ sarvathā mama vāraṇe ||
yatto yāhi raṇe sūta śṛṇu cedaṃ vacaḥ param ||
"By the path of Dhananjaya, by the command of the King of Dharma, I go; blessing to you, O brahmin, let there be no loss of time for me." So saying, Shaineya, going around the teacher, rushed forth suddenly, O king, and said this to the charioteer: "Drona will strive by all means to hold me back; go carefully in battle, charioteer, and hear this important word."

Satyaki does not answer the taunt with abuse -- only a respectful "svasti te brahman", blessing to you, O brahmin, and presses on toward his goal: "na me kālātyayo bhavet", let there be no loss of time. It is telling that he honors the brahmin-teacher yet is not diverted from duty. The verse teaches that the wise do not let themselves be drawn into a quarrel that distracts from the essential: to an insult they answer with courtesy and hold to their purpose, for to be pulled into dispute over wounded honor would betray the task entrusted to them.
