नंस्य वीं र्मरास्य शानात्
च्छामि स्वस्ति ते ब्रह्मन् मे कालात्ययो वेत्
संजय उवाच
तावद् क्त्वा शैने चार्यं रिर्जयन्
प्रयातः सा राजन् साथिं चेदम् ब्रवीत्
द्रोणः रिष्यते त्नं र्वथा वाणे
त्तो याहि णे सू शृणु चेदं चः रम्

evad uktvā śaineya āryaṃ parivarjayan ||
prataḥ saha jan sārathiṃ cedam abravīt ||
droṇaḥ kariṣyate yatnaṃ sarvathā mama raṇe ||
yatto hi raṇe ta śṛṇu cedaṃ vacaḥ param ||

धर्मराजस्य शासनात्dharmarājasya śāsanātby the command of the King of Dharma; by the order of the King of Righteousness
गच्छामि स्वस्ति ते ब्रह्मन्gacchāmi svasti te brahmanI go; blessing to you, O brahmin; I go; may good fortune be yours, O brahmin
न मे कालात्ययः भवेत्na me kālātyayaḥ bhavetlet there be no loss of time for me; may there be no delay for me
एतावत् उक्त्वा शैनेयःetāvat uktvā śaineyaḥso much having said, Shaineya; so much having spoken, Shaineya
आचार्यम् परिवर्जयन्ācāryam parivarjayangoing around the teacher; passing by the teacher
प्रयातः सहसा राजन्prayātaḥ sahasā rājanrushed forth suddenly, O king; sprang forward swiftly, O king
सारथिम् च इदम् अब्रवीत्sārathim ca idam abravītand to the charioteer said this; and said this to the charioteer
द्रोणः करिष्यते यत्नम्droṇaḥ kariṣyate yatnamDrona will make an effort; Drona will strive
सर्वथा मम वारणेsarvathā mama vāraṇeby all means [at] my restraining; in every way, to hold me back
यत्तः याहि रणे सूतyattaḥ yāhi raṇe sūtago carefully in battle, charioteer; drive attentively in the fight, charioteer
शृणु च इदम् वचः परम्śṛṇu ca idam vacaḥ paramand hear this important word; and heed this weighty word
अनुवाद

"By the path of Dhananjaya, by the command of the King of Dharma, I go; blessing to you, O brahmin, let there be no loss of time for me." So saying, Shaineya, going around the teacher, rushed forth suddenly, O king, and said this to the charioteer: "Drona will strive by all means to hold me back; go carefully in battle, charioteer, and hear this important word."
