यत्र ते परमेष्वासा यत्ता रक्षन्ति सैन्धवम् ॥
तत्र याहि स्वयं शीघ्रं तांश् च रक्षस्व रक्षिणः ॥
इहैव त्व् अहम् आसिष्ये प्रेषयिष्यामि चापरान् ॥
निरोत्स्यामि च पाञ्चालान् सहितान् पाण्डुसृञ्जयैः ॥
ततो दुर्योधनः प्रायात् तूर्णम् आचार्यशासनात् ॥
उद्यम्यात्मानम् उग्राय कर्मणे सपदानुगः ॥
yatra te parameṣvāsā yattā rakṣanti saindhavam ||
tatra yāhi svayaṃ śīghraṃ tāṃś ca rakṣasva rakṣiṇaḥ ||
ihaiva tv aham āsiṣye preṣayiṣyāmi cāparān ||
nirotsyāmi ca pāñcālān sahitān pāṇḍusṛñjayaiḥ ||
tato duryodhanaḥ prāyāt tūrṇam ācāryaśāsanāt ||
udyamyātmānam ugrāya karmaṇe sapadānugaḥ ||
"Where those foremost bowmen, made ready, guard the Sindhu king, go there yourself, quickly, and protect those guards. Here I myself shall remain and shall send others, and I shall hold back the Panchalas, joined [with] the Pandu-Srinjayas." Then Duryodhana set out quickly, [by] the teacher's command, rousing himself [for] a fierce deed, with his attendants.

Drona divides the labor: he himself will hold back the Panchalas, while Duryodhana is to "rakṣasva rakṣiṇaḥ" — guard the very guardians of Jayadratha. It is telling that even the protectors must themselves be protected. The verse teaches that solid defense has many layers: one must shield not only the one being guarded but also his guardians, for the chain of protection holds firm only when every one of its links is reinforced.
