Like the sun at midday, blazing with its rays - so too your son, in the midst of battle blazing with waves of arrows, whom the Pandavas, inclined to flight and without hope of vanquishing the foe, could not even gaze upon in battle. The Panchalas scattered in flight, being slain by the great-souled one, by your bowman son with gold-feathered, bright-tipped arrows.

Duryodhana blazes like the noonday sun, and the Pandavas cannot look upon him: detached from life, he has gained a splendor unknown to him in the days of hoping for victory. It is telling that the very might once powerless is now formidable - for to it has been added fearless resolve. The verse teaches that fear for one's life diminishes strength, while detachment from it multiplies it; and a man who ceases to cling to himself blazes forth terribly, like a heavenly body, even in an unrighteous cause.
